Blue and White Vase with Pears 20 x 16 Oil on Canvas

On this painting I wanted to go a little looser then usual.  Most of my paintings at the Shain Gallery in Charlotte have darker backgrounds so this time I made it a lighter background with gold and lighter colors added to it.  The small works show for the Shain Gallery started on December 5th and goes through the month.  Also on this painting I used a gallery wrap canvas so no frame.

Vase In Turquoise 24 x 24 Oil on Panel

I am trying a new panel that is made locally and have to say I love it.  The wood and construction is really well made.  You do have to put on your own gesso, but that is fine with me.  Also there is no frame as it is made with deeper edges.  This turquoise vase has so many beautiful colors in it so I really enjoy painting it.  It was also made by a local potter.  Currently I am trying to go lighter with my palette.  Just in one of those moods that's all.  This painting is available at Anne Irwin Fine Art in Atlanta, Georgia.  It will be in the small works show starting this Friday, November 14th.  Please stop by if you are in the area.

Twigs 24 x 24 Oil on Canvas

I am getting ready for the Small Works Shows at both galleries.  This is a new size for me and it is a gallery wrapped canvas so no frame.  I think it gives it a more contemporary feeling.  There are spa colors in the background along with greys.  This nest is a mockingbird nest and I found in the holly bush at my mothers house.  Their nests remind you of playing pick up sticks.  The nest is so loosely made with twigs in every direction and somehow the thing stays together.  It probably helps that they build their nests in the holly bushes, which are so hard to get into that the birds must feel safe.  This painting will be available at Anne Irwin Fine Art in Atlanta, Georgia.  I will drop it off in a week or so and the show starts November 14th.  Stop by if you are in the area.

East Beach 36 x 36 on Canvas

Last March I took a plein air workshop with Bill Davidson on St. Simon's Island, Georgia.  The class was a week of plein air painting.  We had a great time and met many artists.  We had a lot of challenges with the gnats one day on the marsh.  All of our paintings had dead gnats on them.  My favorite days were on the beach painting.  I took many photos and this is from on of them.  Luckily one of artist had a house on East Beach so we were able to work out of her house and on the beach.  This painting came from a morning of rain that was still around.  The sun was just starting to break through and shine on the water.  This painting is part of the Southern Artists, Southern Scenes at Anne Irwin Fine Art in Atlanta, Georgia.  The show is up for 3 weeks or so. Check it out if you have time.

Low Country Marsh 36 x 48 Oil on Canvas

This is the largest landscape I have done so far.  This is actually from the May River in Bluffton, South Carolina looking out on to the marshes.  The day we were there it was beautiful and we were actually in town for my Uncle's funeral back in JuneHe is buried out in the garden of the church that looks over the May River.  It is a well known Episcopal Church and its absolutely amazing.  If you are ever on your way to Hilton Head check out Bluffton.  It's a hidden gem.

This painting will is available at Anne Irwin Fine Art and it will be part of the Southern Artists, Southern Scenes that starts this Friday, September 19th.  Check it out if you are in Atlanta.

44th Annual Decorators Show House and Gardens

My still life called Still Life with Grey Vase and Fruit was featured in this years Decorators Show House and Gardens, which is sponsored by the Atlanta Symphony.  My painting was featured in the kitchen.  There is an article about the Showcase House in the September Issue of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine.  My painting is on page 122 although it is in seam area of the magazine.  You can also look at it online on the magazines website.  It was an honor to have my painting chosen especially since its the only painting in the kitchen.  The painting was purchased which makes me even happier!  Thank you.

Marsh I Oil on Linen 24 x 20

As you know my blog has been out of commission since the end of March.  I am not even sure when it stopped working, but eventually I found out it had to do with Feedburner by Google and then a new DMARC Policy from Yahoo that AOL has also done.  If you have Yahoo or AOL I hope you are still getting blogs from not only me, but other people.  Google decided not to continue to support Feedburner so blogs stopped working and I still don't think many people know that there blogs have stopped working.  I am using Feedblitz, which is a paid feed.  There were a few options, and I decided in the end at least if I have a problem I can call or chat with a person on Feedblitz.

I am now very behind in posting, but will catch up when I can.  This painting is currently in the "Best of Show" at Anne Irwin Fine Art.  This landscape is a mixture of different marsh studies I have done in the last year.  Hope you enjoy and I will be back to posting on a more consistent basis.

SOLD PAINTINGS

Here are some recently sold paintings from the Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC.  North Carolina Home, and River Home.  Thank you for your purchases!

Adrift 40 x 30 on Linen

A few years ago one of my art friends told me where I could go paint in Hilton Head.  Since I love the sun and the beach I just didn't feel like painting on site.  I went by the spot one morning and took pictures of the scenery.  My friend has painted this scene many times and there has never been a boat in her paintings from this spot.  Therefore I know that this boat was Adrift.  It was an old boat and was just sitting there, not anchored down or anything.  I took many photos with different angles and plan on painting many more pictures from this location.  I truly felt at the time that this was God given and still do today.  This painting is available at Anne Irwin Fine Art in Atlanta.  My blog is currently not going out to people.  I found out that it was Feedburner, but have to make many changes and just don't have the time at the moment to work on this project.  As usual when I have to do computer things by the end of it I want to throw the computer out the window.  Hopefully it will be working in a few weeks.

Radishes and Onions 12 x 16 Oil on Panel

I really love painting radishes.  These were from Fresh Market and they are called Easter Radishes with all of the different colors.  The onions were a lot of fun also.  This painting is available at the Shain GalleryMy previous post never went out when I published it I am not sure why.  So please check it out.  Thanks.  UPDATE:   It looks like Google is letting Feedburner fade away.  From the forums I have read many blogs are not going out and haven't in weeks.  Mine being one of them.  I have now switched to MailChimp so lets hope I set it up correctly.  Hopefully this will go out tomorrow as an update.  This post is new and the one below is new since the Feedburner malfunction.  Thank you!!!

Tart 8 x 10 Oil on Panel

Years ago I was lucky enough to take a workshop from Sarah Lamb at The Grand Central Academy of Art in New York City.  I think Sarah has only taught a few workshops so as you can imagine it was a wonderful experience. It was a 3 day workshop and I believe the 2nd day she did a second demo and that was of a tart from a New York Bakery.  It was the first tart I think she had ever painted and she found it while we were at lunch that day.  It was a great demo as you can imagine and one of my friends purchased the painting.  I still look at it every time I visit herFrom the demo we went out and purchased simple things to paint.  I painted some eggplants.  I wish I had painted something from a bakery at that time.  Not sure what I was thinking. I have a great picture of Sarah and I from the workshop and maybe I will scan it and post it.  It was before I had a phone that took pictures and maybe before phones could take pictures.  There were many wonderful artists in the workshop and a few have become well known.  You never know who is painting next to you at a workshop!  So now finally after many years I am painting my own version and plan on painting a few more wonderful items from bakeries around here.  By the way, Yes I did eat the tart after painting it.  This painting is available at the Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC.

Still Life with Grey Vase and Fruit 18 x 18 on Panel

After watching David Leffel's video on painting an orange or circle shape I really wanted to work on mine.  I really like how the one on the right turned out.  The one on the left is in the shadow so it didn't need the same effect as the one on the right.  Both pieces of pottery are by local Atlanta artists.  Anyway I do have more news and new paintings to add.  I will do it over the next week or so.

Turqoise Vase 20 x 16 Oil on Panel

Well finally I have a good photo of this painting.  I have taken pictures now since January and for some reason today after the snow I had my blinds pulled up and the sun was shining in and I thought its so bright I might get good photos of 2 paintings and it actually worked.  This is so exciting after having very frustrating photo days!  Today I am getting cabin fever so this really helped.  Happy Valentine's Day!

Roses in Gold Vase 11 x 14 Oil on Linen

Finally I am posting a painting.  I have 3 paintings to post, but have had a hard time getting the right lighting for the painting to look the way I want it to.  This year I will be participating in the Spotlight on Art at the Trinity School in Atlanta, Georgia. It starts February 3 thru February 8th.  I haven't participated in this in a few years, but this year the gallery is allowing me to participate.  This is one of the paintings that will be there.  Happy New Year and I will try and post more paintings soon.
